Yakuza: Like a Dragon takes a bold step in a new direction for the series. The shift from reflex-testing beat-‘em-up action to a more structured, turn-based JRPG-style combat system seemed like a gamble, but it pays off. The combat feels fluid and energetic, even in turn-based mode.
The engaging ensemble of characters, including protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and his companions, sets this game apart. While the story doesn’t stray too far from the series’ signature complex criminal conspiracies, the Yokohama setting and fresh cast breathe new life into the Yakuza universe.
